As a reader pointed out, the affidavit for the search warrant for a search of the old Busch family home condenses a lot of what was in the FOIA documents I have previously posted. An even broader and disturbing picture is painted in the original affidavit prepared in this case by then Livonia Det./Sgt. Cory Williams.
Here’s how this works. Williams did all of the heavy lifting on this information, and I mean all of it. He prepares the affidavit and he provides it to Oakland County. He and Garry Gray from the MSP then met with Oakland County Prosecutor Dave Gorcyca and two assistant prosecutors in October 2008 to discuss the Busch lead and the need to search the Bloomfield Village home he was living in at the time of the OCCK murders. Williams and Gray showed the evidence that had been developed up to that point, including photos, reports, witness statements, and polygrapher Larry Wasser’s behaviors and statements to police.
Gorcyca states it is the best lead in the OCCK case he has seen in his 14 years as a prosecutor. The warrants attorney then drafts the affidavit I previously posted for the signature of Det./Sgt. Gray from the MSP and a judge signs the search warrant and it is executed in late October 2008.
Consider the affidavit prepared by Det./Sgt. Williams:
I cannot answer another reader’s question about what, if anything, was ever done by the MSP state lab to evaluate any of the evidence, including any animal hair. The MSP would not keep in touch with my Dad, and a year after the search warrant was executed and he heard nothing back and they kept blowing him off, he went to reporter Marney Keenan at The Detroit News. Then it was war. The MSP playbook does not involve respecting victim’s family members if they ask too many questions, let alone go to the press. I sincerely believe that if some high up at the MSP had reached out to my Dad prior to that and even given him some bullshit–much like B’ham PD had done for decades, he would have patiently waited for the MSP to step up. They could have bought a few more years of silence and compliance through gaslighting and manipulation the way B’ham PD did.
In fact, after the release of Marney Keenan’s book, The Snow Killings, Inside the Oakland County Child Killer Investigation late this past summer, I believe the MSP has made an internal decision not to pursue any aspect of the case. I would like to see them answer for what they have not done in this case.
Prayers for answers and justice
While most of this is “old news”, it was fascinating to read Williams’s summation. Thank you, Cathy, for posting it. It was well worth reading.
I did learn something new – Larry Wasser specifically said “1977” as the year of the mysterious Busch polygraph in which he confessed to Tim’s nightmare.
We know that Busch didn’t commit “suicide” until late 1978, yet he confessed in front of Wasser and Burgess a year earlier, according to the first sentence of the second paragraph on page four.
On page 5, fifth paragraph, an unnumbered tip was called in about Chris Busch on August 13, 1977 in which Busch’s Bloomfield Township address was noted.
The unnamed tipster clearly wanted the OCCK Task Force to look for evidence linking Busch to the case at 3310 Morningview Terrace, an address would not surface publicly in this case for decades.
So, our unknown tipster was calling in about Busch at a time when Greg Greene was locked up forever, but Busch was still roaming around free. Free to blab about his involvement in front of Wasser and Burgess.
Is it possible that the tipster was either Burgess or Wasser themselves, hoping to anonymously name Busch and to get him off the streets?
Distinct possibility, Paul. Which could explain why Jessica Cooper was so pissed off at the world about this development in the OCCK case that was waiting on her plate when she took office. I believe prior to being sworn in, she was contacted by Larry Wasser and told about his unfortunate excited utterance at the polygraph conference in July 2006. This risked the delicate situation possibly negotiated by attorney Jane Burgess and polygrapher Wasser. Cooper may have known about this back in the day, who knows. Follow me here–Burgess and Wasser do the brave thing and, given this is a serial child rapist and possibly killer, who by definition will commit another crime, thereby relieving them from the attorney-client privilege, drop the dime on him. They could have just told Daddy Warbucks, who was paying all of Chris’ extensive legal bills and he himself could have arranged for a “suicide.” Maybe Officer Friendly, Bloomfield Village cop and pedophile, Richard McNamee, took care of things. It’s not like there was any investigation into Busch’s activities or who came by or was seen near the house in the days before he is found rotting.
Long, long way of speculating that perhaps Burgess and/or Wasser did just that. If so, that was a brave move. The only way it works, though, is if everyone keeps their mouth shut. Wasser can only blame himself for lifting the veil; yet it is my family that is vilified by Cooper and the state police.
Burgess and Wasser’s work is done after they dime Busch. Someone arranges for the pig to get offed and then the task force and Bloomfield Township PD get in there and start obstructing when they realize he was in their hands less than a month before my brother was kidnapped and murdered, and then released. Not only released, but given a real send-off by Brooksie, who tells the world Busch and Greene were in no way involved in the OCCK crimes and this is reported a month to the day my brother’s body is found in a ditch in Livonia. Now neither the state police nor Patterson can ever say shit about this again. It was they who fucked up.
I feel like quite a few still-living establishment people think the solution is just fine. The man gets murdered and can no longer violate children or abduct and kill them, the OCCK killings stop, no need to explain why law enforcement never made an arrest in this case, it blows over–everybody’s a winner, right?
The problem is that covering up a crime and then covering up the cover-up is obstruction of justice. Forget about Busch, Burgess and Wasser. The enablers need to be exposed. Name, rank and serial number. Those people were on the public payroll when they pulled this shit.

The way LE treated your dad kind of reminds me of the way I got treated whenever I wanted to work at some job temporarily. The employers’ response was usually “You’re overqualified”. So what I mean is, possibly LE was terrified of your dad because he was a lawyer. Maybe they were afraid he could nail them right left and center for the things they weren’t doing or were doing wrong. I wonder if LE would have been more forthcoming with someone not so well educated.
I guess we’ll never know but I’m still sticking to this case all the way to whenever.
I will be posting the task force’s rendition of their 1978 “manual,” which in my opinion clearly demonstrates what they were most concerned about. It reminds me of a dissertation where the author submits all of his notecards and sources, but comes to no conclusion whatsoever. We now know that no “As” should be given for effort here.
