Someone was certainly quick to point out that that study didn’t include the OCCK victims. Hmmm.
That’s a good point. This article was also run in the Tribune on 9-27-1977. Perhaps that is the point someone was trying to make……twice.
I was stunned by the number of victims in only the select cities (Berkley, Birmingham, Ferndale, Bloomfield, Royal Oak and Troy). 782 victims, and only 1 in 4 will make a report. So the possible number of victims could be 3,128. I wonder just how far back they searched for victims. Of course, they probably excluded the victims of a certain Bloomfield Township police officer (if any reports was made).
I also wonder how much task force money was wasted on this study. The money would have been better spent upgrading the tip database instead of deleting a thousand or more low priority tips from their database. Almost every pertinent tip in the FOIA files were low priority. But that’s another story.
The study could have also been a housecleaning effort by the Task Force. After all, McKinney was killed only 7 days earlier. (found dead 9-20-1977). That too is another story.
Remind non Detroit viewers, those cities are close to each other.
