The following is the best explanation I have read about how some wealthy/powerful men–people who literally want for nothing–cross the line of moral/ethical/legal norms and engage in predatory and illegal sex acts. Turns out they really aren’t an enigma after all.
It’s hard to believe, let alone articulate, how someone who society seemingly admires for their wealth and stature would cross over these lines. Why would they do this? Why take the risk? The author, Lilith Helstrom offers a truly disturbing explanation.
It’s not only because they can, because they can buy ironclad protection and intimidate their prey, and because they can strong arm weak public officials to make things “disappear” or look the other way. It’s because they no longer feel much of anything. Because they are rich and bored and looking for the next dopamine hit that now includes getting away with sex crimes. The little people can’t do that. But they can and they do.
May every day include more exposure of the actions of these “enigmas” and those who enable and protect them.

The boredom explanation makes about as much sense as anything. We can all remember bored, malevolent little shits from our schooldays and the nasty things they would do to classmates for no good reason. These creeps are the grown up versions of those little shits.
