Why this case is so confounding and maddening.

That is by design, of course, although I hate to use the word “design” to describe what was done to this case beginning in January 1977. I believe we can thank L. Brooks Patterson, Richard Thompson and for different reasons, the Michigan State Police, for that. They thought they had the best plan. No more kids will die, residents won’t give a shit about these murders after a time, we can all keep our reputations, our careers, our paychecks, our pensions. It worked for them.

There are never any updates in this case. “Nothing to report.” No inquiries answered. Ever. Throwing tips in the garbage, altering police reports, hiding files and ditching evidence since January 1977. Compare this approach with that of agencies across the country who come forward to ask for tips in cold cases and to report on progress or the lack thereof. Because they have nothing to hide, they speak to the public.

Did you know my blog had a 10-year “birthday” recently? If you are a long-time reader, you know not one goddamn thing (and there have been many “things”) has moved the dial in this dirty case. As a reader succinctly put it: This case, with roots to the Busch, Fisher and Shelden families, politicians and the Cass Corridor network of pedophiles and child porn producers, Ike McKinnon’s informants from the Motor City, all of the Oakland County law enforcement agencies involved, including the FBI, are cloaked with complicit public corruption. Any aging, Detroit-area pedo with origins to the 1970s probably knows something. And the very small, aging, dirty circle of law enforcement/prosecutor manipulators in this case are almost all six feet under.

Who is the FBI handler in this case who watches over this Pandora’s box rather than work the case the way the FBI did/does in any other child abduction/murder case, let alone a serial murder case? They are very quick to point out that they are not the lead agency–see the MSP or the Oakland County Sheriff. Right. On behalf of four dead kids, thanks for nothing.

We need a believable whistleblower to out the corruption in this case, where the criminals have long been protected and corrupt law enforcement and prosecutors rewarded. And we can’t count on the police. Or the Oakland County prosecutor, or the state AG. It’s worse than the ongoing and disgusting murder case in good-old-boy Colleton County, South Carolina against Alex Murdaugh. Murdaugh came from a wealthy family/long line of bullying jurists who had control over law enforcement and judges before it finally imploded. At least Murdaugh was indicted for murdering his wife and son and for his financial crimes. His murder trial continues. He did not get the Oakland County home-cookin’ “H. Lee Busch” treatment.

Bear with me this week as I tweak the blog format. The “theme” I used in 2013 has been “retired,” so I am working to upgrade and hope to spend more time on it this weekend. In the meantime, you should be able to access older posts more easily. The tweaks continue and I am hoping to make the blog more accessible and correct the formatting. It might suck, but even at this point it’s more accessible than Michigan law enforcement agencies.

  1. After finding out that Art Sloan worked at the gas station at Grandriver and Power rd in Farmington I felt that he might of know Father Gary at St Sarrows church about one mile north of the gas station. My other thoughts were that Sloan knew the area of 8 mile and Gill since he was a tow Truck driver. I grew up at 8 mile Farmington one mile east of Gill rd. I was going to Power Jr high the morming they had Gill rd South closed because of your sweet brother Timmy King was found the night before. Back in the 70s Gill rd was unpaved and not well lit. A few homes with in the first block off 8 mile with corn fields. I believe that the person or persons had to know about the area.

    1. Sheri, you are right. Sloan was a wrecker driver & a CB radio guy. Very well could have used his wrecker to transport Stebbins body to 10 & Greenfield in his wrecker the night Marks body was dumped. Sloan worked at the gas station at 10 & Middlebelt and just so happened to call Farmington Hills PD that night & told them he’s there working late!!!

    2. The Farmington Hills nor the Southfield Police would have looked twice at a wrecker late at night on 10 mile rd or in the parking lot where Mark was dumped

  2. Murdaugh is in my backyard. I’ve been following it since 2020. It is the talk of the low country and the filth of it all is on display (the trial isn’t capturing the depth of it all) on any one of several streaming services. The similarities are, frankly, heartbreaking. Living through the let down and disappoint of the OCCK that has, over the years, evolved into anger with and skepticism of any law enforcement agency makes the Murdaugh story totally unshocking to me. He is used to H Lee treatment- he often applied it to his friends and family and even from prison is still trying to manipulate the narrative. Yeah, his family dynasty has imploded but yesterday I watched the law partner who took the stand for the prosecution yucking it up with one of the defense attorneys during a break while Alex’s brother, John Marvin, shared a chummy conversation with the state AG. That kind of poison permeates everything. There is a journalist/podcaster here who has worked tirelessly to expose the Murdaugh crimes and powerful people have tried to bully her into silence. She has refused.

Your blog has exposed what we knew was happening to these cases. You refused to be silent. You bring sunlight to the poisoned ground. Thank goodness.

  3. Too many dirty hands in the pot. It was probably someone from the law enforcement or political community running the pedo ring…

    1. Agree, Gringo. They couldn’t risk a deep dive into the OCCK case because exposure would be hard to control. Better to focus on “welfare cheats” and bringing/keeping $$ in Oakland County. Right, “No Deals”???

  4. Thank you Cathy. We always appreciate the updates. There is one person who I think has the most inside information and I have written to him recently in hopes that he will finally get this off of his chest. If what I believe happened, then he has been holding onto this terrible secret for far too long and I bet he is just waiting to tell his story. I mean there are several people who are still alive that I would be interested in hearing from now, but this person in particular has much more information than the rest. Hopefully I will hear back from him and if I do, rest assured, you will know about it right away. I am not holding my breathe though, as I am sure many people have tried to reach out to those still living, but it’s worth a shot. And his story is only part of the whole case, there is definitely plenty more to look into, but if he talks, it would be great starting point!

    1. It’s infuriating to know there are people who know the truth, and could help, but will not. Someone needs to be a decent person for once and help.

  5. I guess it’s hypocritical for me to say that, I’m using a fake name, mainly to protect survivors in my family who are in denial. I did report to FBI. Got my DNA kit. Doing the FOIAs that bring back nothing. But I’m too chicken to even name the town?

  6. Hey Cathy, You know me. There NEVER is any kind of an anniversary article about this case in the media. No public out cry from the police asking for tips, etc..

  7. I see the next person down from Dick Thompson who signed for the Busch file was Guerrini. That would be Ralph Guerinni, who like my dad was an investigator at that time working for Brooks Patterson & Dick Thompson. Interesting why he would have the file & Busch is murdered 6 months later.🤔

  8. Makes me think back to an Oakland County Prosecutors Office Christmas party I was at in the mid 1990’s. I noticed Thompson was there and walked up and introduced myself, knowing my dad worked direct for Thompson for 13-years. I told him I’m Lee Williams son & also a detective now. Thompson responded, “ Ive never heard of him & hurried away.” 🤔

Things that make you go hmmm!!

    1. That is exactly the response my dad got, Cory, when he met Thompson for the first time at some fucked up event in Oakland County after the Busch lead surfaced. The fuck never, ever spoke to my dad before that day. My dad introduced himself and Thompson replied “ah yes, the blue Gremlin,” and walked away. He never responded to the two letters my dad wrote him after that. I would shove a blue Gremlin up that man’s ass if I could.

  9. I’m really leaning towards Chris Busch was murdered by detectives who were told to get rid of him, knowing he was involved & that the ball was dropped on him early on. It would explain several independent detectives from several different agencies all saying over the years, “it was taken care of. It involved a GM executives kid.”

The problem is, the others also involved went underground at that point and were on their own after that, so the case went cold. This would also explain others like Greene, Gunnels, Sloan, Lamborgine..etc. with circumstantial connections to the killings going un-indicted over the recent years.

If Busch, Sloan & others would have been thoroughly investigated early on, I believe Michiganders would have known the details of this horrendous case and those who were involved in this conspiracy would have been charged!!

    Just my two cents!

    Cory

    1. Det. Williams – your two cents, is a $million bucks with respect to this case, in my opinion.
I’m looking for documentation about some things, which researcher-authors have stated in recent years. I’m not asking for anyone to make such documentation public, I just need to know IF it exists.

J Reuben Appelman mentions, in “The Kill Jar”, that Chis Busch’ probation (yes?) officer allegedly noted persons “with connections to Cass Corridor and North Fox Island” among his associates. I can’t find such a report, or references to it, in the huge trove of documents the King family has graciously shared with us here. Do you or Cathy have documentation for this?
It strikes me a bit odd, to be honest. You would understand this better than I, but there seemed to be a standardized approach to reports on suspects, back in the day.
For many others, like Sloan; associates, family, vehicles, these things investigated and documented in detail. (In Sloan’s case, enough to make you vomit). But, in the Busch reports, I don’t see any mention of “associates” other than Greg Greene and his family members. When his family are interviewed, THEY never talk about Chris’ having “associates”. The known Busch victims interviewed by you, only ever mention Greene. The impression it gives, is of Chris Busch being a hermetic loner.
