But what do you expect from the Catholic Church and Boy Scouts of America and their shady lawyers?
Why this case is so confounding and maddening.
That is by design, of course, although I hate to use the word “design” to describe what was done to this case beginning in January 1977. I believe we can thank L. Brooks Patterson, Richard Thompson and for different reasons, the Michigan State Police, for that. They thought they had the best plan. No more kids will die, residents won’t give a shit about these murders after a time, we can all keep our reputations, our careers, our paychecks, our pensions. It worked for them.
There are never any updates in this case. “Nothing to report.” No inquiries answered. Ever. Throwing tips in the garbage, altering police reports, hiding files and ditching evidence since January 1977. Compare this approach with that of agencies across the country who come forward to ask for tips in cold cases and to report on progress or the lack thereof. Because they have nothing to hide, they speak to the public.
Did you know my blog had a 10-year “birthday” recently? If you are a long-time reader, you know not one goddamn thing (and there have been many “things”) has moved the dial in this dirty case. As a reader succinctly put it: This case, with roots to the Busch, Fisher and Shelden families, politicians and the Cass Corridor network of pedophiles and child porn producers, Ike McKinnon’s informants from the Motor City, all of the Oakland County law enforcement agencies involved, including the FBI, are cloaked with complicit public corruption. Any aging, Detroit-area pedo with origins to the 1970s probably knows something. And the very small, aging, dirty circle of law enforcement/prosecutor manipulators in this case are almost all six feet under.
Who is the FBI handler in this case who watches over this Pandora’s box rather than work the case the way the FBI did/does in any other child abduction/murder case, let alone a serial murder case? They are very quick to point out that they are not the lead agency–see the MSP or the Oakland County Sheriff. Right. On behalf of four dead kids, thanks for nothing.
We need a believable whistleblower to out the corruption in this case, where the criminals have long been protected and corrupt law enforcement and prosecutors rewarded. And we can’t count on the police. Or the Oakland County prosecutor, or the state AG. It’s worse than the ongoing and disgusting murder case in good-old-boy Colleton County, South Carolina against Alex Murdaugh. Murdaugh came from a wealthy family/long line of bullying jurists who had control over law enforcement and judges before it finally imploded. At least Murdaugh was indicted for murdering his wife and son and for his financial crimes. His murder trial continues. He did not get the Oakland County home-cookin’ “H. Lee Busch” treatment.
Bear with me this week as I tweak the blog format. The “theme” I used in 2013 has been “retired,” so I am working to upgrade and hope to spend more time on it this weekend. In the meantime, you should be able to access older posts more easily. The tweaks continue and I am hoping to make the blog more accessible and correct the formatting. It might suck, but even at this point it’s more accessible than Michigan law enforcement agencies.

She’s an evangelist for the use of forensic DNA analysis in law enforcement. But does she understand the risks?
