It looks like it is now an empty lot. Can anyone access the ownership history of this house dating back to 1977? Does the address ring a bell for anyone who has reviewed the FOIA documents? It could have been a rental and it could be just another rabbit hole.

Found something from 1936…Charles Hamenstafer had a HAM radio license for that address.
There was a HAM radio enthusiasts and cross dresser ( not the good kind ) on Willis in the Cass Corridor 1970 – 1996
Published public records only took me back to 1998. Short of going to Register of Deeds for the city of Detroit, nothing is online.
A reader suggested the Polk city directory, which would reveal who lived there in 1977, regardless of ownership. I am going to check with the Detroit Public Library to see if the Polk Detroit directory for 1977 is accessible.

If you could see if they have a Polk City Directory for the City of Detroit for 1977, that would be a huge help. If so, the directory should show who resided at 12616 Coyle Street that year. Police seemed interested in the north room on the second floor and another reader pointed out the room could have been rented out to someone.
I don’t have a tip associated with this address, but it appears to be the only residence where police obtained evidence in my brother’s case back in the day. Evidence was obtained from cars–Arch Sloan’s Pontiac Bonneville; from a large ice chest found (hair) in a car belonging to John Crosbie, as well as from a Gremlin (appeared to be for comparison purposes–carpet).
So far I have been unable to locate a source for online Polk directories, aside from a company that wanted to sell me a subscription to current directories. If you get a chance to inquire in person at DPL, I would be grateful. Thank you!
Has anyone tried Ancestry.com? Supposedly they have Polk City directories online to their subscribers.
Another reader mentioned this as well. I am not a subscriber; anyone know if Polk City directories are accessible on Ancestry?
I am not an expert with Ancestry but it seems the search is by name. However when I entered the address as a keyword, the only record was from 1993, and they weren’t there long.
I think the library is the best bet.
They may indeed. I do not subscribe, but when I searched on the address last night, it did provide results, and I am pretty sure it indicated they were from the Polk directories. Unfortunately it had too many results and it grayed (blurred) out the year of residence.
