Not sure if this crime story from 76-77 was ever mentioned in these blogs before, but I’m going to paste a link to share. It’s an interesting read about the trauma of child abduction and the consequences that result from ignoring childhood trauma.

The journalist deserves a kick in the backside for errors and omissions
Frank’s name was Shelden not Sheldon
And there was a damn sight more disgusting reality than the journalist dismissal by the use of the word “porn” would indicate.
It is repugnant to refer to the abduction by false pretences of “Christian pastorship” of a group of boys, and the subsequent sexual assault and buggery and filming of these crimes, by the obscure and dismissive term ‘porn’.
This was a pointless gap/filler newspaper article which failed to do duty to the deeper reality

Short, but interesting article! There were a couple of things that surprised me;
1. The article mentioned “six other possible victims”. I recall reading previous articles/listening to podcasts about four (?) young female murder victims from the early to mid-seventies that were (at some point) thought to be linked, but later eliminated. I wonder who these six victims are? What information makes their cases suspected of being linked to the Oakland County murder cases?
2. The article also mentioned “a porn ring from the sixties and seventies”. I don’t recall ever seeing any previous information or evidence indicating activity dating back to the sixties. Has any evidence ever been made public? It seems this vile activity was larger and potentially farther reaching than I thought. If true, there must be (many?) more victims – presumably still alive – suffering from long lasting and life changing childhood trauma to this day. Hopefully they have received counseling from professionals, and support from loved ones. I wish them all well.
As the saying goes; “somebody out there knows something”. Hopefully, these other victims will someday come forward. Each day seems to bring new revelations!!!
Shelden bought the island 1960 – I have seen a comment from a Native American who says he was abused on this island in 1963 – I have tried to contact this man unsuccessfully so far – I can’t recall his name but Bruce someone in music industry I recall – I have the record on laptop but I am in India with a phone only now
I am sure that’s true that Bruce and others were taken there from the earliest days
I also know that a priest I met in India now deceased was admitted to Maryglade Seminary in the vicinity of OCCK
I am convinced that priest as a lifelong paedophile was involved on NFI with Shelden in the period up to 1966 when the priest was ordained
I have photographs of the same priest sitting with Frank Shelden in 1994 at the Indian orphanage where the priest rescued poor orphaned boys then sex abused and trafficked them
Frank fled USA decades earlier yet these two without internet had kept so close that Frank and his dutch friend Dr Frits Bernard and others in groups regularly visited the orphanage on child sex tourism
I believe the orphanage served more or less identical purposes as NFI being so remote and a kingdom unto itself
I worked as a volunteer years later oblivious to any of this
When priest died only then his hidden evil began to get told and its only an Indian boy, now a man, who gave the name freank selden spelt that way which allowed me to finally identify who this man had been
Thats the only way I ever got to hear about OCCK as an Australian
Ade, I used to go insane reading the errors in the journalistic treatment of the OCCK case and Shelden’s N. Fox Island case. The writer could have started with Aine Caine’s article about Shelden dated August 22, 2019, in Business Insider: https://www.businessinsider.com/jeffrey-epstein-north-fox-island-francis-shelden-2019-8. But these types of articles and the even worse “Top 10” type article–top 10 unsolved serial killings, etc., are clearly hastily prepared without adequate background, for the average American reader who today can’t/won’t read more than a paragraph.
I post this stuff so everyone can see how these cases are “handled” in the media and how Michigan itself is portrayed in these “pieces.”
Unfortunately, this is how misinformation is repeated and the failure to truly investigate things like police and officials’ failure to heed the words of someone like Bruce decades earlier is perpetuated.
Everything you point out. And how about the basic fact in the OCCK case that none of these kids was strangled. Jill Robinson was shot in the face. The other three kids were suffocated, which if you consider the “fireside chats” between John Hastings and Helen Dagner, true or not, makes a big difference in evaluating who the killer might be.
And, not a single journalist since Marilyn Wright at the Traverse City Record-Eagle, has reached the level she did in reporting on Frank Shelden in the late 70s. The Detroit area papers barely touched it, probably because many of Shelden’s “clients” were suits in Oakland County. There is some serious FBI shit in the Fox Island case as well, which the late J. Edgar Hoover (d. 1972) would have approved of.
