This shit drives me crazy. This coddled man-child (age 36 at the time of the “incident”) got a little kiss from Karma after all. It should have been much more than a peck on the cheek, punk. We know your type; we know what certain families do to get the “just-us” treatment. Some shameful cops, prosecutors, and judges play along and hope the whole damn thing blows over. If your last name is Matouk or Busch: Nothing to see here.
Using a 4,00o lb-plus moving vehicle as a weapon in broad daylight should have met with swift arrest and judgment, not delays and not just with a fine. Presumably he was sober when he rammed a moving billboard vehicle three times. Someone who would do this is a danger to society. I wonder what this did, if anything, to his car insurance premiums.
The handling of the vehicular assault case should make you think long and hard about the way the “investigation” into the death of JoAnn Matouk Romain was handled by Grosse Pointe Farms PD and Grosse Pointe Woods PD.

Here’s the now-deleted Facebook post of this thug, flaunting how he will walk. That’s how they do it in the Woods.

I cannot help but ask the same question that many of the readers here have asked. What if I was the one who committed this crime?
After 13 months in the legal system, and 16 months after the event occurred, would these charges have been dismissed against me? Please forgive my sarcasm in my conclusions below.
1. Malicious Destruction of Personal Property $20,000 or More Defendant Stand Mute: Plea of Not Guilty Entered by Court
Result: Charge dismissed.
New Charge entered: Malicious Destruction of Personal Property $200 or More But Less Than $1,000
Result: Pled Nolo Contendere
Conclusion: I suppose the prosecutor and judge that accepted this plea thought that this was a toy electronic truck. And toy electronic trucks could have only caused damage of a bruised toe or lost toe nail. Or they found an auto insurance appraiser who severely underestimates all of his investigated claims. After all, what is $200 compared to over $20,000? It’s all the same right?
2. Assault With a Dangerous Weapon(Felonious Assault) Defendant Stand Mute: Plea of Not Guilty Entered by Court
Result: Dismissed
Conclusion: See item 1.
3. LYING TO A PEACE OFFICER 4 YEAR OR MORE CRIME INVESTIGATION Defendant Stand Mute: Plea of Not Guilty Entered by Court
Result: Dismissed
Conclusion: I suppose the Grosse Pointe Woods Police (and other local agencies that investigated this event) have a great sense of humor, they like being lied to, and love a good joke on them. What a great bunch of guys and gals. Good to know if I ever drive in that area.
4. Failure to Stop After Collision
Result: Dismissed
Conclusion: I suppose the prosecutor and the judge that accepted this plea thought that they would have done the same thing. Especially if they also had other felony convictions in their past as well.
The other enraging things are–What if that was my son driving the billboard truck who was injured?! This thug doesn’t get arrested promptly and then fucking “stands mute”?! Also, most of us who are parents had the talk with our kids during their teens where we explained that we loved and trusted them, but if they decided to do certain illegal things or keep company with those who do, it could escalate out of our hands and we would not be able to help them.
Families like this one, like the Busch family, like the parents of Jesse Mack Butler–they don’t even think to have that talk. Because fuck everyone else they cross paths with–the “law” will side with them.
If this was a brown or black person, it would have been manhunt and then go to jail, go directly to jail.
I hope the billboard truck is back on the road again soon. And looking forward to future podcasts that explain more within this plea deal.
