A little more background on pedophile Greg Greene

Whether or not you believe Greg Greene is a possible suspect in the child killer cases, the record establishes he was a prolific and violent pedophile.  In 1974 he was arrested in California on 45 counts of child molestation, kidnapping and the false imprisonment of young boys he accessed via a baseball coaching position he had.  He shared victims with the team’s sponsor.  He claimed to have molested over 200 boys.

Greene had choked one of his victims nearly to death and dumped him on the grounds of a California hospital.  He was arrested for this and other sex crimes and incarcerated for half a year in the Orange County jail and then another half a year at a state mental hospital before returning to Flint.  The Snow Killings, p. 94.

Greene would recount this story of choking a victim who threatened to tell on him to a 12-year-old boy he raped in Flint in 1976.  The boy was on a summer baseball team Greene was somehow allowed to coach after his return to Michigan from California.  Guarded by Jackals, p. 50.  He had “run away” from home and was “staying with” (imprisoned by) Greene at his father’s home on Baldwin Street in Flint.

Greene continued to rape boys he accessed via coaching baseball in Michigan.  I guess his mental health counselor in Michigan, whom he had to see twice a week as a condition of his 5-year probation in the California cases, didn’t think to ask or was ok with the coaching gig.  See Jackals, p. 52.

As explained in Jackals, thanks to the vigilance of the principal at Donovan North Middle School and the diligence of Flint PD Officer Tom Waldron and Sgt. Frances Miller, it was discovered that Greene had raped three boys from this team, ages 10 to 12, and that he had probably molested many more.  Id., pages 50-51.  Greene’s arrest on January 25, 1977 for these child rapes set in motion the later arrest of pedophile Chris Busch, whom he named during interrogation as the murderer of Mark Stebbins.  Busch’s name only came up because Greene identified him as Mark’s killer.  He apparently just pulled that name and that crime out of thin air.

And whether or not you believe Greg Greene is a viable suspect or participant in the OCCK crimes, it cannot be denied that Oakland County took great and at the time seemingly inexplicable pains to make sure Greene and Busch were never again linked in any news article or courtroom after that pesky reporting that Busch, Greene, Douglas Bennett and “a fourth man” were arrested for pedophilia and related crimes in Genesee County in January 1977.  Jackals, p. 51 and 134-147.

As discussed in Jackals, Greene, given his horrific history, was radioactive, especially with a child killer on the loose in glorious Oakland County.  Flint resident Greene could never again be put in the same company or sentence as Bloomfield Village resident H. Lee Busch’s son, Chris.

Here’s some interesting background on Greg Greene found by a reader.  I don’t think we ever got the full story on the radioactive Greg Greene and I don’t think we ever will.

Greene was an above-average high school athlete while at St. Agnes High School in Flint.   He excelled in a number of sports.

He was only 16 when he helped coach young boys to a midget baseball championship as “team manager”:

As the reader pointed out, given Greene’s exploits in California, where he provided boys to the baseball team sponsor, maybe he learned this as a 16-year-old in Flint.  Who he might have been providing boys to in Flint at that time is a big question that will never be answered.

Further evidence that Greene was not some total social loser in high school, but instead an above-average athlete in baseball, football and *maybe soccer, consider the following:

That’s Greene’s apparent sports resume.  Here’s his arrest record prior to the January 25, 1977 arrest for raping boys on the Flint summer league baseball team, as documented in FOIA responses:

Thanks to the reader for providing a wider-angled lens on pedophile Greg Greene, who was neatly put away on a guilty plea for life in the summer of 1977 and never heard from again and died of a heart attack at the ripe old age of 52.

Thanks to this and other readers who have provided impressive background research on many of the “players” on the OCCK and N. Fox Island rosters.  I don’t post most of it, at the authors’ requests.  But I appreciate the input.
