I get a fair amount of blow back along the lines of “why are you looking back when it can do no good? “ Here’s why and here’s why my blog is ultimately an ok thing, no matter if you agree with what I post or why I do it:
We never forgot our brother/son.
We never denied what he suffered through.
Because there is nothing wrong with searching for the truth, even when ignoring it is easier.
Because facing the truth is important.
Because integrity is important; preferably relentless integrity. (I know that’s asking too much.)
Because we did not stay silent in the face of evil, lies, corruption, shame, and incredible ego.
Because when you don’t look back at what went wrong, there is not only no healing, history can more easily be repeated.
Because victims of sex crimes often do not have a voice and because sex crimes are still often treated as “not that bad” and therefore worthy of ignoring or diminishing. Think there was only one Jerry Sandusky running around all these decades?
Because crime victims deserve far better than they got/get in Oakland County, Michigan. And, apparently, so do some defendants: http://www.theoaklandpress.com/general-news/20130129/prosecutors-more-than-a-dozen-drug-cases-dismissed-in-oakland-county-after-learning-investigator-lied-under-oath.
Because if you have nothing to hide, you should embrace complete transparency in your dealings with others, to the extent allowed by law. And don’t manipulate the law so you can hide behind it.
Because you can never count on somebody having a conscience if their ass is on the line for whatever reason, no matter the egregiousness of the crime or situation.
Because I think the Michigan State Police suck.
Because I also think Oakland County sucks.
Because a number of people totally skated for almost 40 years and have lived/live their lives as if not a goddamn thing happened. Children were tortured and died, people and communities were broken. There were a lot of us who had to crawl on our hands and knees to be able to walk again. And I don’t have to keep my mouth shut about that.
As I’ve said all along—if you don’t like it, don’t read it. This is a pass/fail gig. And I’m giving myself a pass. We dared to speak up and it made a difference. Not much, but a difference nevertheless. What happened in these cases can most definitely happen again. Don’t say I didn’t tell you.
And I think Berkley PD sucks, too.
You go girl. Very few people understand what you/your family went through. You need and deserve closure.
“POWERFULL and PAINFULL”
AND it’s still happening. Not just from those who were involved then, but now by those who have become involved since. And all those acts of violence that COULD have been stopped if only those responsible for protecting us had just done their job.
You have made it clear to us that something’s not being done. That information isn’t being shared that should have. I for one am proud of your efforts to bring the truth to light. This is no conspiracy theory build on fable. You have shown that there are clear facts that remain concealed to protect those with power.
I only hope that the truth will come out soon so that no more pain has to come to innocent victims, and that peace may finally come to so many who suffer. Keep up the good work, please.

Finally, I have finished the dvd Decades of Deceit. Staggering that Chris Busch has been eliminated so blithely by Ms Cooper, especially in light of the Gunnels connection/hair and the screaming child drawing in his bedroom. And of course his predatory sex history and the Wasserman polygraph. And the missing sperm slides??!! Please don’t let up on these enablers.
The sperm slides are MISSING? I never heard that before. Are we talking about the sperm mentioned in regards to the Stebbins evidence? I was thoroughly shocked when I read about that in the deposition/report sent with the DVD. What’s the story on this?
Anybody who can’t understand this blog needs to re-examine themselves. get religion or something. How could anyone be so thick that they can’t see the sheer necessity of a civilized community/country figuring out who had the nerve to DESTROY. The children were DESTROYED. Think about that.
The courage and dedication of you and your family is inspiring, While on the flip side the cowardice of others who should rather hide, lie, and forget are doing more than just furthering an injustice, they are becoming participants in this beyond sickening crime.

Cathy, you are absolutely right to look back, if it were not for your family, this case wouldn’t go anywhere. I just wish the media would do more. I see Kevin Dietz comments on here and he seems like a nice man but, he and the rest of the Detroit media doesnt do enough. Yearly TV reports with a tip line should be shown by the major Detroit TV stations . This case cannot be forgotten until it is solved.

Best blog I’ve read in a long time! It’s not looking back as much as revealing how history is repeating itself and providing information to those who think these things can’t happen to them.

Every day your rights are trampled under the name of Homeland Security. Weren’t they supposed to be looking out for us in the first place?
Children and young adults are thrown under the bus every day by Law Enforcment. More important to catch all those speeders on the highways. Pays better and is safer for the POPO. Call and tell them your child is missing and see what kind of action takes place. Your better off calling the local motorcyle club, they’ll at least will start looking!
I’m just getting more pissed off.

I have been reading your blog for months now. Everyday I become more and more filled with hope that you will end up solving this case. I think the world owes you a great debt you are basically solving the case for the police who should more helping you. I really feel your going to crack it soon. My Grandmothers best friend was Ruth Stebbins and she was with her that night Mark went missing from the American Legion hall in Ferndale. Ruth was such a kind person but dead with a broken heart. I know you are getting close don’t stop your a voice for those who can not speak now. I will be buying the DVD and look forward to watching it, and hope my donation can help in any way.
