False investigative starts, wild conspiracy theories, and a seemingly infinite number of accusations against nearly everyone involved with the case: The murder of JonBenet Ramsey 26 years ago

Some true crime podcasts are pretty lame. This episode of True Crime Garage entitled JonBenet: The Master Detective is very interesting and worth listening to. Parts 1 and 2 are posted at the below link and other related episodes are expected this month. There are so many sadly common themes/parallels between the murder investigation of 6-year-old JonBenet Ramsey in 1996 and the OCCK investigation.

On April 28, 2022, a group called Justice for JonBenet started a petition on change.org directed to Colorado Governor Jared Polis asking him to put Ramsey DNA testing decisions in the hands of a new agency that’s free from Boulder’s significant history with the case and to utilize a private lab for DNA testing. The basic message:

Given the lack of progress by the Boulder Police, we the undersigned petitioners ask you to move DNA decisions in this case away from the BPD to an independent agency so that JonBenét has a last chance at the justice she deserves.

That same week JonBenet’s dad, John Ramsey, made the case that child murders should be investigated as federal crimes and not left up to local police. https://catherinebroad.blog/2022/04/30/child-murders-should-be-investigated-as-federal-crimes-not-left-up-to-local-police/ . Amen.

On February 11, 2023, it was announced that Boulder PD would be partnering with private DNA labs and would consult with the Colorado Cold Case Review Team, comprised of cold-case experts from across the state. https://www.foxnews.com/us/jonbenet-ramsey-case-boulder-police-consulting-cold-case-review-team-nearly-26-years-6-year-olds-death .

It was announced in early October that the review by the Colorado Cold Case Review Team was set to take place by the end of this year.

October 7, 2023

Of course this may just mean the first meeting among the participants will take place by December 31, some 20 months after the change.org petition began circulating. Whether or when they will update the public remains to be seen.

Governor Polis is my governor and I think as a general rule the guy does an excellent job. As the petitioners explained, he was the only person with enough power and independence in the state to put Ramsey DNA testing decisions in the hands of a new agency.

Our life experience colors our beliefs and biases. I can honestly say I have never believed the narrative that any member of the Ramsey family killed JonBenet or staged her body. Most of all I remember all of the focus on the behavior of the family in the wake of this murder as some explanation for guilt. Like there is some playbook for families to behave in the mind-bogglingly heinous situation they were faced with. You might think you know what you would/wouldn’t do, but you are wrong. Very wrong. Hope you never have to find out.

What Boulder PD and the Boulder DA did to this family is beyond unconscionable. This on top of fucking up the murder investigation of a 6-year-old girl for over 26 years. I hope they get some answers and I hope this cold case review team realizes their obligation to update the public.

  1. In fact the original DA, Alex Hunter knew that the cop shop was full of shit. He hired seasoned and successful Colorado Springs detective Lou Smit. Smit did a good job, but was shunned by the grand jury prosecutor (politics). Smit fixated on “a violent pedophile UNSUB did it conclusion.” I don’t because the overall evidence says strongly “power and control” was the overall motive. Your forwarding of the interview with Dr Olson also backs what I’ve been saying. I’ll submit a summary ASAP. For now I’ll quote Olson: He said the killer was very dangerous, and very unique. The other detectives added that despite the neat freak cleaning of the victim’s clothes, etc, the perp was seen by witnesses that described him as not very tidy at all. I’ve read it three time now and I took notes, but I still want to summarize some exact quotes. And yes, Jessica Cooper most certainly secreted that very key document and obviously she did so 100% intentionally. If she is still alive, I’d take legal action against her if I was you or your family. She’s scum! She, of all people; clearly aided and abetted the parties responsible for it. She damn well knew it too!

  2. Cathy, I just want to say that you are amazing, a warrior, a queen, a goddess! You help me with out even knowing it, your anger, persistence, it reminds me that someone cares, someone understands. We will get these guys. I will never stop talking about my grandfather’s cult that abused me in Oakland County in the 80s. We will bring light to the corruption of Oakland County sheriff, etc.

Does anyone know anything about Milford Michigan? My great grandfather was mayor in 1930 -Dan Howard Smith. He’s credited with saving the town bank, I have newspaper clippings and journal entries. I’m pretty sure it was an organized crime thing, basically threatened people not to take their money out of the bank. He started the cult. A few names that might be linked but I don’t know: Arms, Lovejoy, Ruggles. I’m not accusing, just wondering. I wonder about Hoffa and the teamsters because it’s in the same area and I remember talking on the CB radio in my grandfather’s truck to other male truckers, they all had a code name. Could be totally unrelated, it’s hard having so little info. My grandfather worked at GM. Supposedly my aunt had drug/prostitute parties in high school in Milford Michigan at their home on main Street.

Thank you Cathy!!! You give me hope!!!! This is all just agonizing.

  3. I feel terrible for the family, to be under suspicion for so long is horrific, and not able to get it properly investigated.

  4. The additional episodes in the True Crime Garage podcast discussions of the JonBenet Ramsey murder case are really interesting and the last three, episodes 38-49, are really important. When a community has a rampant pedophile problem, especially wealthy pedophiles, somebody is going to die; somebody is going to escalate. That is one of the conclusions. The comparisons with Oakland County are chilling, down to how this shit flourishes when pedophiles received light or NO sentence in child sex crime cases. ESPECIALLY # 38-40. https://truecrimegarage.com/listen
