The bad judgment of the MSP (and the nonprofits who tipped them off) on display. I love that the plaintiffs got a judgment, not a settlement, to foreclose an outright denial of liability (which the notorious state police press patsy still went for when contacted by the press). I’m surprised the MSP didn’t ask for an NDA as part of a lame settlement offer. The state waived a governmental immunity defense for this case. Governmental immunity in cases like this is bullshit. The officers involved should have been held personally liable for damages. But of course their union would never let that happen. If they actually had to exercise some discretion and good judgment, rather than their thuggish nature, lawsuits like this wouldn’t be necessary.
