    1. If not for the Indy Star reporting on this nightmare, Nassar might still be in circulation victimizing at MSU and through the national team. Michigan tends to like the head in the sand approach at every level.

    2. “Detroit Free Press,” “Detroit News”—and other media in this area—are focused on something else sports-related: Detroit hosting the NFL Draft.

(This has been getting coverage on for days.)

  1. FBI and DOJ personal who FAILED should be forced to pay half the settlement. Law enforcement and Judicial branch are constantly exempt from answering for their actions…that’s why coverups such as OCCK and Nassar continue to happen

      1. Then there was this higher-level gem of an FBI agent in the same office who, during the eight month delay in lifting a finger over the Nassar allegations and many lies later, thought he would be a good fit for a move to the private sector with USA gymnastics. https://www.indystar.com/story/news/investigations/2021/07/16/larry-nassar-usa-gymnastics-fbi-investigation-doj-job-report/7977052002/. W. Jay Abbott, head of the Indianapolis office of the FBI, was allowed to retire with full benefits while under investigation. As others have written, Congress needs to pass legislation that provides for accountability for people like Abbott, who oversaw this massive failure and snuck out the back door with his taxpayer funded benefits, leaving those same taxpayers holding the bag for his failures. Pretty slick, pal. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9811261/FBI-chief-ignored-Larry-Nassar-abuse-claims-seen-enjoying-retirement.html

  2. In the wake of Nassar and the failures at MSU, USA Gymnastics, the FBI and the DOJ, institutions, employers and law enforcement ignore allegations of sexual abuse and pedophelia at their monetary peril. It’s the only language these people speak, even as the settlements pale in comparison to the harm done.

There was the usual, predictable dose of asshole in the comment section of the Washington Post about this settlement. The parents should have known; Nassar looked like a pedophile why did anyone trust him?!; the students should have done something different or quit the sport; how dare my tax dollars be used to pay for such a thing; it’s just a money grab for the attorneys.

Although we do not directly vote for the head of the FBI/ heads of satellite offices, or for members of the DOJ, I’ve been writing here for years that you should be very careful who you vote for–especially prosecutor and county sheriff. A couple of wrongful convictions or other civil rights violations are going to cost the county and they never want to talk about that at election time. They bury it in their budgets. A string of wrongful convictions in an office run by a “nice man,” speaks to how business is done in the office at the time of the convictions. It takes time, effort and money to right the ship, especially if the dirty players are still on the payroll. So pay attention if your well is poisoned or you will see more of it.

In the meantime, maybe we will see less “ball dropping” when it comes to sex crimes. Train your people or keep the checkbook handy.

  3. I live in the Detroit area. Non stop , 24 hour coverage on the NFL draft. No much on Larry Nassar and zero about OCCK since maybe 1978.

  4. Still not clear to me, the basis of these FBI agents’ “major malfunction” over Nassar.
Fanatical US Olympics devotees, afraid of upsetting that applecart if they let themselves believe Nassar COULD be a serial pervert? Or something more personal?
It’s not law enforcement’s job, to ‘protect’ “high profile” persons from CSA allegations. Period.
