Ann Arbor Figure Skating Club coach Steven Pottenger has been charged with two counts of fourth degree criminal sexual conduct with young victims. Fourth degree refers to intentional sexual contact but not penetration. Each count carries a maximum of a two-year sentence.
Once again, evidence that not all pedophiles are of the Bobby Moore, Ted Lamborgine, Greg Greene, Arch Sloan obvious scumbag variety. They are also coaches, priests, corporate types, doctors, old, young, rich, poor.
A hockey coach affiliated with the rink Pottenger coached out of expressed doubts about the allegations. Although he has never met the accused, the hockey coach says he would be surprised if the allegations were true because: “We go through a lot of training now a days on that kind of stuff to where it shouldn’t be happening now a days.”
A parent opined that it must be a misunderstanding because the coach is so popular and parents and guardians “are usually present.”
The community is shocked. Imagine the shock of those two kids.

16 is age of consent in Michigan, Maybe he will get probation on a disorderly charge
The Michigan Penal Code (750.520e) outlines that a person is guilty of criminal sexual conduct in the fourth degree if sexual contact with another person occurs accompanying any of the following: The other person is at least 13 but under 16 years of age, and the accused is at least 5 years older than that other person.
Under 16 is under 16.
And so it continues. In Ann Arbor to boot. I’m sure his dog loved the coach too.
That’s a familiar story. Everyone in Leelanau County and Ann Arbor thought highly of Frank Shelden as well back in the 1970’s. They loved the guy.
Also, in my opinion, no doubt Lamborgine and Greene were most certainly scum bags. But I do not buy the task force and police stories that Lamborgine and especially Greene were low income or had limited financial means. Lamborgine was a long time worker with a good income and benefits, as well as, a good pension at Ford.
Greene may not have had a steady job, but his father (Luke) was a 35 year veteran at Fisher Body plant in Coldwater (BLK00592). That was at least a middle income job with great benefits and pension. I also do not believe he was sickly and near death in the late 1970’s as the task force notes indicate. He was well enough to re-marry after his son went to prison, and lived until 1993 with his new wife. So I believe he was at least middle income, and had means to assist his son to a point.
Also, Greg Greene’s uncle (Woodard Greene, brother of Luke) was the owner of a large retailer (Lady Orva Fifth Avenue Hosiery) on Woodward in Detroit for many years. So it appears that he also may have had good financial means to assist his brother and nephew.
Interestingly, Woodward Greene had a partner in this business until the partner died falling off a boat with Woodard Greene on July 2, 1958. Greene did not report the missing partner for 2 hours. He docked the boat first, stored his gear, and fastened a tarp over the boat before reporting the missing person. A bit unusual in my opinion. The terms of the partnership stated that in the event of death, the surviving partner would get the entire business. His first lie detector test a day after the incident was inconclusive. Police said Greene was too upset at the time to accurately record his reactions. A detective administered a second lie detector test days later, and claimed he was truthful. He was then cleared.
Another uncle of Greene’s, and the owner of the above boat, was the owner of a cab and RV company in Macomb County for many years. Yet another successful family member with financial means.
As I said, just my opinion based on some facts,
