The election didn’t go the way I wanted it to. Here’s a discussion that decently approximates how I feel, if you care:
I have been a registered Independent since 2018 which was good for my psyche because I made the change before the DNC shoved Joe Biden down the Dem’s throats not once, but twice. The change was bad because I receive about three times the political texts/emails having an Independent status. My record this election season was 34 such texts in one day.
I have vast experience eating the kind of shit the next administration will hand out, having been a family member of the last known victim of the OCCK (killers), Tim King. Almost 50 years of it, in fact, from the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, the Michigan State Police, the Michigan State Lab and other bullshitters and self-servants along the way.
I think Tom Nichols has it right in the above interview. All you can do is get up in the morning, square your shoulders and take a deep breath. I will keep up my emails/calls to the OCP. (They, like the MSP, don’t like a paper trail.) I will keep posting about the malfeasance and indefensible foot-dragging in this case, especially when it contrasts so fundamentally with what is taking place in other very cold cases around the country. Malfeasance that is agnostic when it comes to political party. This just might be the year I post everything I know, because I’m so very sick of being told to sit tight and keep my powder dry. Enough already. How can I fuck up what you are unwilling to do or act on? Stay quiet in case you decide to act? Seriously?
As far as the next four years, I will stay vigilant and do what I can to protect and support those who will be singled out for unjust cruelty and mistreatment by this administration and its emboldened followers. While I will join the large chorus of people asking the Universe to make sure these people do not start WWIII or crash the economy, I believe that even in the absence of catastrophic consequences, many will be hurt along the way in what may right now seem unimaginable ways. Even many of you in the 51%. I will meditate as much as I can to keep any Schadenfreude in check.
I’d like to tell you that after decades of shit-eating and next to no support that it gets easier. But it doesn’t. And sometimes it gets worse.
