I read a comment on a post about Frank Shelden and oil/minerals and didn’t think it meant anything.
But I may be headed toward getting fitted for a tinfoil hat because there’s a lot of things that don’t make sense about Shelden. I don’t understand old money and wealth like that but I can’t believe someone (a real reporter—not me) hasn’t done a deep dive story on him and his family.
He has living family. His brother died in the last decade and had a family.
For example: Denver Mining Co comes up once in a newspaper for putting on some mining films (?!) in conjunction with GM (?!) in the 1960s-70s. I can’t find anything about the company besides a matchbook with Frank’s name on it for sale on eBay and adverts in Los Angeles for a restaurant with live music.
Did Frank own a mining company or a restaurant with coded language about mining that was an innuendo for something else?

I have a smidge of an obsession with Francis Duffield Shelden and the families he came from and the Grosse Pointe communities he grew up in. And Millbrook and who he went to school with at Yale and the society pages that mention his name and who’s he’s dancing with at the Shelden mansion and the GP Simian Club he is president of that puts on plays in the summer when all the prep school kids are home… etc etc etc.
You are correct that no reporter did a deep dive on Frank Shelden. The only reporter to do any heavy-lifting on the N. Fox Island scandal in the late 1970s, with mention of Frank Shelden and his pedo associates, was Marilyn Wright of the Traverse City Record-Eagle. She did very heavy lifting on the rings of criminality surrounding the bogus organizations these evil POS set up to scam the state, city and county for money with their “charitable” organizations and their “nature camp” and other bullshit for underprivileged boys. Use the search function for my blog to get an idea. While the Chicago newspapers were picking up on N. Fox and Gerald Richards, primarily because some dentist there was linked to a major pedophile ring, they did not provide the detail Marilyn Wright did. The newspapers in S.E. Michigan didn’t really touch any of this reporting. Shelden and his family had all kinds of political contacts all over Michigan and I’m sure every single one of them was pressed hard to drop N. Fox Island and the monster Frank Shelden. I know a number of people are looking more closely at Shelden and H. Lee Busch. But they aren’t reporters. I don’t even know if there are any “real” reporters any more, at least in the Detroit area. Shelden and his associates (with the exception of Gerald Richards, who didn’t come from money or power but still got a slap on the hand), as well as H. Lee Busch and probably others in upper management at G.M. were able to fly free under the radar. In the case of Busch, his son got suicided and even that was kept far, far below the radar. Why wouldn’t investigators ask the families of the OCCK victims if they ever knew or saw Chris Busch?! I think the answer is now very obvious. When law enforcement from various agencies (Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, Birmingham PD and others) said some version of “we know who the OCCK was, we just ‘couldn’t touch him’,” over the years, maybe it wasn’t the “intrepid” attorney Jane Burgess’ representation of Chris Busch–maybe they couldn’t touch him because it would pull the thread that led to other monsters in positions of power. Marilyn Wright was said to have been working on trying to find a link between N. Fox and the OCCK crimes, but she left Michigan and moved out east for other employment.
While Frank Shelden did not appear to have the wide rolodex of powerful men that Jeffrey Epstein did, I believe his victim count far, far surpasses that of Epstein, as did his criminality in all areas of sexual exploitation of children. A monster who was bred in the allegedly rarified air of Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Every one of his heirs should have donated a huge sum to a child advocacy center specializing in sexual abuse of children.
Yes. Marilyn Wright was the only deep dive on this. Thank the universe for M. Wright!
Meanwhile, Frank Shelden hung out with George and Michael Blow in high school or college. Those two went on to be famous. Especially one of them, who became a hot shot constitutional law attorney.
FDS attended the (George)Romney – Griffin dinner in 1966. Lots of money to attend that thing.
His parents threw dances for him who he got out of Yale. He seemed to be only interested in running the GP Simians Club for a few summers. He had a date to one of the dances and that young woman also traveled with his parents to pick him up from school or drop him off. She also spent a few weeks with his parents now and then in the summers and I’m sure Momma Shelden was hoping love would blossom. Boy, did that young woman dodge a bullet, huh?
Yes, thank the Universe for Marilyn Wright and for the fact that she didn’t work for The Detroit News or The Detroit Free Press.
That young woman would have ended up like Elsie Busch or Dottie Sandusky. She did dodge a bullet, big time.
