Gaslighting and vindictiveness.

These are the perennial themes in the OCCK case I will be writing on beginning in April.

Here is a comment from a wonderful family friend who knew my brother Tim well. The comment is from April 2013.

Tim was a great kid and we owe it to him and the other victims to get all of the files, information and evidence into the hands of an independent authority for review. Why would anyone be against this?

Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Eleven years later.

Why would anyone be against this, indeed.

    1. A reader found typed notes in the FOIA documents that reflect a call to police on 1-20-2015 about this recollection. Do you remember who you spoke with and what s/he said in response?

  1. Well stated: “Why would anyone be against this?” Well, that’s the heart of the issue and it’s why we need to always view the OCCK cases as premeditated murder cases, first and foremost. Secondly; they were unilateral acts of domestic terrorism. Thirdly, they were organized acts of gaslighting, which is tantamount to a hidden power broker asserting their “control of all things.” There’s no denying that the prosecutor was acting as their agent. However; the interview of Dr Olson contains very valuable information. For one thing; he pointed out that the killer was very dangerous, and especially with his obvious comfort with the handling of the bodies postmortem. The initial impression was that the killer was a “neat freak,” but that was quickly dispelled by the one of the cops stating that the guy was seen and that he wasn’t very tidy in his personal appearance. This is tantamount to an admission that he, the killer, was most certainly seen by the police dept! The coverup pivots at the Olson interview, or even sooner than that. My observation is that apparently newer and/or nicer used cars were used in the abductions and body dumpings, but that the killer himself used one or more older “beaters” to get around in. Again, a Barry King quote: “The killer was diabolically clever.” Do the logic on a reverse CSI chart, coupled with what we do know, and… apparently a lot of planning, stalking, and detailed manipulation had to have been involved, and especially so in the Tim King case. Who does that sort of thing, and why? And why does this particular killer apparently have unconditional immunity? Why did one investigator use the word “consternation,” after Tim was kidnapped? Who does that? By using “consternation,” it was a woefully inappropriate, unwarranted, and highly suspicious question, IMHO.

  2. So many of us who were just kids in 1977 agree with you Cathy and I know those who were adults in 1977 especially our parents, whether still alive or gone now ( as so many are) would be so angry to think there was any hesitation on the part of authorities to see justice served. This must be such a difficult time of year for your family Cathy. March 22 1977 is burned in my memory. I think our parents were part of a generation that trusted police and authorities to always do the right thing. They would never have dreamed such corruption existed – my parents generation were tough and strong in many ways but also more naive when it came to police and authority figures. I know my parents Aunts and Uncles were in a bit of shock that this could happen SO close to home and they really had no idea what to do or that they should even question law enforcement at that time. Although they felt such empathy for your family. I think today they would be furious at the delays and the excuses.
I do want to say. Tim was a beautiful child as were Mark, Jill and Kristine. I will never forget them.

    1. Thank you very much for writing. Residents of Oakland County then and now would be shocked and incensed by the treachery, duplicity and criminality of the Oakland County Prosecutor L. Brooks Patterson and his #2, Richard Thompson. They would be dismayed and likewise incensed at the machinations of every subsequent prosecutor, the Michigan State Police, the Michigan State Lab and some in local PDs, who helped ensure and thus participated in the corruption of a serial murder case of four children by falling in line/chain of command/looking away. No one thought to question the actions of the prosecutor or police–it was unthinkable in a case where kids were abducted, help prisoner and then murdered days later. This helped the corrupt players make the case fade from public discussion all the faster.

These murders also damaged an entire county and generations of kids. And yet no one in law enforcement will ever say a word about the case. And no one else demands answers or discussion. It’s beyond outrageous. It is a stain and a blight on Oakland County, Michigan.

      1. It’s time to shed light on a horrific time in Oakland County. I’m all in.
I look forward to talking with you Cathy.

      2. I know it impacted me then and still now. I was 7. Followed…like a cat and mouse game. School St. in Clawson. Absolutely Terrifying. I’ll never forget seeing your parents on TV. It lived with us daily, still does, and while nothing is comparable, obviously, to what Mark, Jill, Kristine, and Tim went through, and their families, I, we, may I suggest, are angry about it all. Such trauma, and no answers. They could have alleviated so much pain by just telling the truth. How do we get this out there to someone who will investigate and do a show, so everyone will know? I mean Hollywood, I guess. I feel all of this hard. All I can is I’m so sorry. Fucking assholes.

  3. I was pregnant with my son at the time of the killings. I remember them and the fear we all felt to be exposed to such horrific crimes. It’s time for this to end. Please know that we support your efforts.
