Hopefully this episode gives viewers some real idea of what Othram Inc. can do in cold cases. If you watch, ask yourself why the evidence in the OCCK case was never properly filed, stored or tested. How must it have been mishandled? Why the evidence that was tested and retested is still in disarray. Why there is no “spreadsheet” that lists all of the evidence, who tested it/when, whether it was returned and where it can be currently found. Why the kids’ clothing–their underwear for god’s sake, will not be retested using current advanced techniques. Why there is never a straight answer or explanation. They complain about cost after they let a trooper freeride to retirement for a decade on a “rejuvenated” task force that got nowhere. No file digitization, no organization or evaluation of the evidence.

I hear from a lot of people I have never met. Many were kids during the reign of child killer terror in Oakland County. Some express outrage over the way this case has been handled. One man ended his email by saying he used to believe that the Michigan State Police were an elite law enforcement agency. No more.

No matter the mishandling of the case by prior investigators due to the era or ineptitude, or the interference by L. Brooks Patterson and his goon squad, the fact remains that the evidence in this case has long been under the jurisdiction of the state police. They should be held to account or they should stop taking over cases they can’t handle. The MSP is a black hole when it comes to the OCCK case. And so is the state lab.
