Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie aide Kevin Tomafsky, 43, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for raping a 6-year-old. He did not “engage in a sex act” with a child; he raped her. While he got to plead guilty to child endangerment, make no mistake: IT. WAS. RAPE. AND CSAM. He got busted because he circulated CSAM of the rape on Snapchat in 2022 and someone notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Again note that the former governor’s office staffer pleaded guilty to first-degree endangering the welfare of a child. He must serve “at least five years” before becoming eligible for parole, and will be a registered sex offender.
Five years. According the the Globe article, a grand jury indicted Tomafsky in July 2023, and he was arrested soon after. He quit his state government job after his arrest, but remained a free man pending trial. A superior court judge rejected a bid by the prosecutor for pretrial detention, perhaps making Tomafsky the beneficiary of Christie’s bail reform initiative.
Tomafsky is also under indictment for paying the victim’s father, who is also under indictment. The name of the father is being withheld to protect the privacy of his daughter.
