New York Archdiocese Will Negotiate Sex-Abuse Settlement for 1,300 Accusers

The archdiocese will raise at least $300 million to fund the settlement and has agreed with its accusers on a mediator to conduct negotiations.  So they’ve agreed to a proposal for a process to go into mediation.  Lots of work still to be done.

And after more than five years of litigation, a federal bankruptcy judge has approved the Roman Catholic archdiocese of New Orleans’ proposal to pay $230 million to roughly 600 victims of sexual abuse by the church’s priests, deacons and other personnel.  In the wake of civil lawsuits, the archdiocese filed for Chapter 11 protection in bankruptcy court.

The New York archdiocese is apparently one of very few that did not file for bankruptcy protection and is selling assets and taking other steps to fund the settlements.  New Orleans, on the other hand, went running to bankruptcy court to further thwart survivors for another five years.  Like their pals at the Boy Scouts of America.  Glad to see the N.O. Archdiocese’s detour to bankruptcy court is over and it’s finally time to pay the piper.

HOMICIDES, ABDUCTIONS, ATTEMPTED ABDUCTIONS, AND SUSPECTED ABDUCTIONS 6-13 YEAR OLD CHILDREN OAKLAND CO., MICHIGAN 1965-1985

Here is a much more extensive and disconcerting overview of crimes against kids in Oakland County, prepared by Dr. Mary deYoung, who sent this to me in the wake of my “Not Normal” post of a few days ago.

Dr. deYoung is a retired professor of sociology, criminologist and author of numerous books and other works in the areas of child sexual abuse, trauma and mental illness.  She has vast experience and knowledge about these subjects.

She explains that this chronological list is a work in progress and further

The list is a refined data dump at this point.  Ideally in the future the data will be entered into a searchable spreadsheet so the reader can research how many times a banged up blue car appears in a case (lots) or how many perpetrators have long dark hair (lots and lots).
I must say that the list features some of the most unsettling cases I’ve ever seen, yet the follow-up in public documents is often pathetically sparse.  And then we do know that few cases, especially of attempted abduction, are even reported to the police, so fewer still ever make their way into the news media.  It’s disconcerting.
The project started out as an inquiry into the subject of discernible patterns in child predation in Michigan.  Here are the caveats Dr. deYoung explained as a preface to the read:
This focuses on pre-pubescent kids (although the minimum age is stretching that a bit); the race of the child or perpetrator is only noted if mentioned in the reviewed material, and since “White” is default and not worthy of mention, that means Black, Hispanic and Asian are noted (and this bothers my sociological sensibilities); there is pathetically little follow-up in public records of most of the incidents; and, most importantly, this is a work in perpetual progress.
I think you will find this work very interesting, as well as very sobering if you are or were a resident of Oakland County, Michigan.  If you have additional information to share for this work, you can contact Dr. deYoung at deyoungm@gvsu.edu.

Michiganders Martin Waskowski and Alex Buley-Neumar

I agree with a reader who sent me this link and said parents need to be on high alert and trust no one when it comes to their kids.  Martin Waskowski, a 38-year-old fourth grade teacher in Macomb County (Pleasantview Elementary School in Eastpointe), was arrested last week when crossing the Canadian border with child sexual abuse material (CSAM).  He lives in Royal Oak which is in Oakland County.

Waskowski was tagged when a border crossing alert showed a link to a suspected attempted sexual enticement of a child incident involving him.  At secondary inspection his cellphone showed evidence of CSAM.

A preliminary review of one of the hard drives confiscated in a court-ordered search of his Michigan home revealed more than 12,000 files that appear to be child pornography [CSAM], according to the AUSA prosecuting the case.

Feds: Elementary teacher found at Vermont border with suspected child porn, more at his Michigan home

The presiding magistrate judge agreed to release him into the custody of his father who also lives in Royal Oak.  Waskowski must  wear a GPS ankle monitoring device and steer clear of minors.  Sure, that always works.

A separate preliminary hearing for is scheduled for December 23, 2025, in Vermont, where the alleged border incident occurred.

And from another reader, here is 25-year-old Alex Buley-Neumar, a Michigander who (allegedly) stalked a minor online and then drove over an hour to pelt her family home with Molotov cocktails.  Neighbors helped extinguish the flames before the house ignited.

Stalking and bullying a minor online, then escalating it to traveling to the family home of the minor and throwing Molotov cocktails?  Is an (alleged) POS like this even redeemable?  Twenty-five years old?  Tell me this guy will rise above being this fucked up and I will never believe it.

His bond was set for $1 million and thank god it doesn’t appear he was released to his father.
