North Fox Island was not only a blueprint for Epstein Island. The vanishing/next-to-nonexistent investigation into Frank Shelden and “team” is likewise a blueprint for how the Epstein/Maxwell crimes have been handled to this very day. The steps taken to protect predators in both cases far surpass any investigation on behalf of victims and survivors.
Police and FBI and mainstream media (except for the rare exception–Marilyn Wright with the Traverse City Record-Eagle) have long ignored the sick history of Francis Duffield Shelden. Instead, authors, YouTubers and other documentarians are exposing his crimes and the shoddy investigation.
Law enforcement (and here I mean primarily prosecutors) was protecting high-level/high-society/influential pedophiles who were serviced by Frank Shelden just as Pam Bondi and Todd Blanche, acting on behalf of their client–not the United States, but this president–are scrambling to do now.

This scandal is a reminder is of how quickly an atrocity can vanish when wealth and power converge to bury the evidence. It’s also a warning that history doesn’t erase crimes, it just waits for someone to rediscover them.
Is it any surprise that no one in law enforcement ever looked carefully into Frank Shelden? Is it any surprise that no one in law enforcement ever looked into possible connections between Shelden and his “crew” and the OCCK crimes? Is it any surprise that a person like H. Lee Busch, a bigwig at General Motors Corporation could pick up the phone and make an investigation into his son Chris’ involvement in the OCCK or related crimes go away? Pick up the phone and turn Chris’ death in November 1978 into a suicide? Do you honestly think anyone in Oakland County was going to take seriously claims of a pedophile ring operating out of GM corporate and perhaps in one of its most exclusive neighborhoods, Bloomfield Village? They wouldn’t even investigate Chris Busch’s admitted use of the Big Brothers program in Oakland County as a way to mine for victims. They let him go home to his parents’ house in BV and continue raping kids and creating CSAM.
Busch got an even better deal than Jeffrey Epstein. He got probation in four CSC with minor cases in which he pleaded guilty. He didn’t need a Todd Blanche or a Jane Burgess. He just needed Oakland County officials at the highest level to know he knew that they knew what some of their rich constituents were also doing to kids. Case closed.
The handling of the evidence in the OCCK case, the ridiculous chaos of the files, the destruction of files (and probably evidence), ensured there would never be an online, searchable database of documents or any answers whatsoever. Plenty for the true crime community to chew on, but not a single answer or considered explanation for how organized pedophilia in Michigan and the murder of children was allowed to happen with impunity and then “vanish” from the collective memory.
Attorneys for Epstein and Maxwell survivors have stated that there are at least 20 men in those files who committed sex crimes. Fifty years from now I won’t be around to see if history protects these monsters the way Shelden’s “clients” have been protected for half a century.
The documents released so far prove that Epstein’s crimes were reported years before they were prosecuted federally. Survivors who have long maintained they reported these crimes were shouted down and shunned. They have been vindicated.
Let’s get those 20 names, one way or the other. There should be no VIP passes for rich, powerful pedophiles. My guess is they have more victims than the obvious dirtbags. No one should be able to pick up the phone and throw his pedophile weight around just because he works for a big corporation or is a big donor to political campaigns. Reputation is a facade for men like this and they are allowed to use it for protection and as a cudgel.

I’m new to OCCK. I am also averse to brevity. (sorry!)
I am not from Detroit but heard about OCCK after relocating to the area and found all of the players involved to be so confusing to even try to understand what was happening when there was a breaking news story. I tried to read a front page news story and it was written for someone who had been involved for decades (like family and friends of victims or LE and people who effed up or had some skin in the outcome of the breaking news).
My point—- I think 99% of the followers of this blog have years and decades in ahead of me on anything OCCK or FDS related.
But here I go!
First, I can’t believe the names on the second page of Gerald Richards’ Dorian Philosophy and all the names IN THE LE FILES weren’t investigated more than just “yo, you seen Frank?” “Give us a holler if you do, bruh.”
Donald Sandberg was arrested with another pedo in the 90s. So far, that’s the only one I can find who was caught later.
I say all this because I think homophobia had a something to do with it. I’ve recently learned that Ann Wolbert Burgess (a psych nurse researcher in Boston) had to present evidence along with photo evidence of rape victims to the FBI and LE in Massachusetts to get them to realize rape is actually problem. They had to see women battered and injured and hear Burgess’ research from talking to the victims to realize: man, rape IS bad!
I am sure there are people on this blog who already know, already said it, and already posted it, but I am positive the same attitude applied to FDS and the pedo rings especially if the victims were teenagers.
I think the same ideas apply to consent and minors back then too. The way every story calls a missing teenager a runaway or will refer to a teenager as prostitute or street hustler is wild to me!
I think some LE didn’t wanna dig into things that they thought were “homosexual problems” and their own beliefs about consent got in their way. Look how the government responded to AIDS/HIV early on.

Is it Nels Carlson in Leland or is it one of several Nels in Charlevoix/Boyne City?
I know that page regarding Nels may be difficult to read. And I cannot make out the last word. What I see is:
“Nels was Frank Shelden’s boy lover for many years. His father, Barry Wood, is the contractor from Charlevoix who “built” North Fox Island for Frank. Nels and his boyhood friend know a lot – Nels depends on Frank for (?).”

Hi— Barry Del Wood who went as Del Wood but, I mean, unless he went as Nels, I think it’s someone else. There were several Nels in that area at that time and one of the Nels is/was a very prominent person, Nels Carlson who owned Fishtown or some version of it. Maybe was a charter boat owner, too. Don’t hold me to that detail, tho.
Any ideas? I’m going with Nels Carlson for now. Not that he was involved. I can Gerald Richards naming names of anyone he ever met. FDS wasn’t going to introduce doofus Richards to his up north business owner friends. He’d introduce Richards to the Woods tho, bc they didn’t own half the town or have 8,000 family members in town with a family name that was well respected.

Yes, it is confusing why it is labeled as Nels. Especially since Charles Busch’s middle name is Nels as well. But Richards seems fairly specific as to who Nels is, the son of Barry Wood.

Nels Carlson isn’t on my list of pedos. It is just that a man named Nels Carlson is a prominent person in the town. Richards’ “Nels Nels Nels” all over that area of the weird chart he made, lead me to assume a guy names Nels helped with boats, planes, cars etc happen but not as a participant of the perverted FDS crew. If that makes sense.
It is wild to me that Del went by the name Nels –according to Richards. Example: a woman’s name is Cindy but people call her Mindy.

You are not beating a dead horse. You are just digging deeper into the details of this flowchart one box at a time. This is something that law makers and law enforcement should have done at the the time. And if not at the time, sometime over the next 50 years.
They decided not too, and now we are seeing the results. People in law enforcement, people in the church, and people in leadership positions are committing the same crimes, and also getting off easy most of the time.
From what I have seen so far, the only Nels Carlson I came across died in 1935. But I have not looked as closely at this as you……….yet. I believe its possible Richards could have been covering up for someone when he drew this box. I always think of Charles Nels Busch. But I also think of Occam’s Razor. Choosing the explanation with the fewest assumptions.

I’ve looked at every Nels in Emmet and Leelanau Counties in the sources available to me.
I’ve looked at Nelson, Neil, and all over Reddit and other forums looking to see if Nels is a nickname for any other name.
I’ve looked at Wood, Woods, Weis, Weiss, and Wise.
Nels/Del is a victim. I am sure when all this went down in the late 70s that the locals (young men who knew him) bullied and made fun of him.
If anyone in LE ever questioned him, I hope the didn’t make things worse.
I’m one bad decision away from contacting someone in the family to ask if they’d talk about FDS and Richards. Not to embarrass them or name them or even tell anyone I’ve talked to them— but to help find out more about FDS and anyone relevant to OCCK.

I have a new “Nels” possibility for you. But it is not a person. It is an organization. An organization with an interesting partner. It is an all-female advertising agency in Birmingham, Michigan named “Nels Associates”. According to an 8/29/1971 Detroit News article, this firm began in 1967 in the partners homes, and in 1969 opened an office at 106 S. Woodward in Birmingham.
The partners are Patty McCarthy, and Nancy Busch. The article states that Mrs. McCarthy is responsible for the company name. They selected Nels, which was a name from Patty’s ancestry. The article does mention Nancy has a year-old son Zander, and her husband Charles (Charles Nels Busch).

Chris Swanson, Sheriff of Genesee County and candidate in the next governor’s race just posted a reel on Facebook saying that in light of the Michigan connection revealed in the Epstein files he (if elected) would investigate and prosecute anyone involved in 1st degree sexual assault…regardless of the age of the case as 1st degree CSC has no statute of limitations.
Maybe he needs to start with these cases first. I suspect his current employer (GCSO) might have some files buried deep somewhere that might be helpful.

Unlike certain sheriffs I can think of. I agree that at one point Genesee County had some very important files pertaining to sex offenders most likely connected to the OCCK case and most certainly connected to organized pedophilia in Michigan. The question is whether L. Brooks Patterson convinced Wayne Chapman and his wife Judith Fullerton to take care of that “business” when Chris Busch received his facilitated probation sentences around the state. A second question would be if GC handles records the way the MSP does.
