Last summer the lazy and false campaign promises to “release the Epstein files” got real after a series of administration miscalculations, public missteps and an article in the Wall Street Journal. The “birthday book” compiled for Epstein’s 50th birthday by his coconspirator Maxwell, containing many crude messages from his high roller friends, was released.
A Congressional subpoena served on Epstein’s estate and a call for Maxwell to testify before Congress, among other circumstances, resulted in a private tete-a-tete in Florida between Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and convicted sex offender, human trafficker, pedophile and perjurer Maxwell, who was serving a 20-year prison sentence in Florida.
Immediately thereafter, Maxwell was transferred to Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas. This is in express contradiction of Bureau of Prison policies mandating that convicted sex offenders—especially those with more than a decade left on a 20-year sentence—are explicitly ineligible to serve time at a minimum-security “camp” facility.
Today The New York Times has an article describing the panic engulfing the White House over all things Epstein last summer. It is delicious, if ultimately and sadly, of no real consequence.
If you can’t access that link, or it breaks, here’s a decent summary:

While eye-opening, unfortunately none of the panic and missteps resulted in full compliance with the later enacted Epstein Transparency Act, a law crafted to explicitly deal with duplicitious DOJ and FBI employees and their bosses, as well as anyone who would attempt to protect predators named in the files. Only half of the documents have been released. The survivors’ names were supposed to be redacted, but it was too tempting for DOJ not to out some of them and subject them to inevitable death threats.
Last summer. When we weren’t at war with Iran, gas and fuel prices were stable, and groceries and food prices didn’t continually suck. That’s a lot of tail-wagging-the-dog in 11 months. Birthday book?! Who cares?
Poor old sex offender Maxwell has to wait for her pardon until the heat is off, but at least she gets take-out, yoga and a dog in the meantime. I have no doubt that pardon or commutation is signed and sitting in a drawer in the off chance somebody doesn’t make it to 2028.
Former criminal defense attorney to the president, Todd Blanche, is now poised to be confirmed as the Attorney General. Take another listen/read to/of the above links and consider how that’s going to work.
