Oklahoma City Cold Case Solved After Nearly 50 Years

The Oklahoma City Police Department announced that the 1976 murder of Lela Johnston was solved using the services of DNA Labs International.

It is the first case solved by OCPD using DNA from a genealogy site.

The Michigan State Lab was unwilling to pay for an upgraded profile after DNA Labs International provided an initial report on the Y-str sample in Kristine’s case in August 2022. The State Lab apparently remains unwilling to test or retest additional evidence in the four OCCK homicides. I await a reasoned explanation from that agency as to why they get to have their cake and eat it, too. Why they won’t test, they get to keep the cases open forever, and never explain a goddamn thing to anybody.
