Michigan AG Dana Nessel provided a press release update on two cases in the ongoing clergy abuse investigation today:
Former priest Gary Berthiaume’s request to “go back home to Illinois” was denied at his probable cause hearing last week. Go back home, padre? Do you think Ted Lamborgine got to “go back home” to Ohio or Richard Lawson got to “go back home” to California while they were awaiting trial on similar charges? You must really be used to the liturgical special treatment. Judges are not bishops. And these days, even in Oakland County, bishops don’t have much sway with prosecutors or the judiciary.
AG Nessel stated: “MY OFFICE REMAINS COMMITTED TO CAREFULLY REVIEWING ALL CREDIBLE ALLEGATIONS OF SEXUAL ABUSE ON BEHALF OF ALL VICTIMS WHO COME FORWARD TO TELL THEIR STORY.”
Too bad your homies at the MSP and the OCS office don’t take the same approach.
Just curious why nothing about raids in Ohio, Michigan and Georgia where 100s of trafficked kids were recovered by State and Federal Law Enforcement?
Please post links Frank. I write my blog not as a full time job but to shed some light on and contest with the OCCK case. Contribute in a comment. I am not the NYT.

Thanks, bita.
Dear Catherine, I am a former parishioner at Our Lady of Sorrows, 1971-1994. I’ve kept articles & some pictures of Gary Berthiaume, who was associate pastor during part of that time. I just started reading your blog after your Dad’s death. Somewhere in the blog (I now can’t find where at the moment), you asked for pictures of Gary in 1976-1977. I have always found this one clipped from The Michigan Catholic in 1974 more than concerning/disturbing in light of sketches in the OCCK investigation & after Gary’s jail stint here in Michigan. He retained those sideburns much later than 1974. It is now astounding that Gary Berthiaume is back in Michigan facing more charges after all these years. I tried pasting this on your blog, but it wouldn’t work.
Sincerely, Pat Garczynski

Thank you very much, Pat. The comment section will allow links to be pasted, but not photos or larger files. Kind of a design flaw if you ask me. My email is catherine.broad@yahoo.com if you want to forward the photograph/link. I think it is helpful to post photos of people as they were back in the day because let’s face it, none of us look now like we did in 1976 or 1977. No one doing what Berthiaume did has only 4 or 5 victims.
