Agencies and institutions in Michigan love a good scapegoat. They love a good victim-blame game. Jonathan Vaughn and other survivors of the sexual abuse by University of Michigan physician Dr. Robert Anderson, are not your scapegoat. Way to keep after it.
“Your constructive knowledge, functional blindness and incredible guilt needs no introduction. I will not be the scapegoat. You need to prove that you are serious and committed to not allowing this type of atrocity to ever happen again.” That sums it up for the University of Michigan and, as far as I’m concerned, Oakland County, Michigan and the Michigan State Police in the OCCK case. It’s disgusting, shameful, enduring and endemic.
Deeply satisfying! A real tribute to surviving and thriving—and a real wake-up call to every institution that finds it’s easier to look the other way than to live up to its mission and values.

Jon Vaughn is a true hero, and it is very heartening to see all these faculty members come out in support of his advocacy.
But I think those good people would be aghast to learn that someone who LE considered one of the most prolific child pornographers, child rapists and a suspect in the OCCK killings (Frank Shelden) was enrolled in the doctoral program of the U of M geology department and lived in Ann Arbor until late July of 1976. (Anderson started in 1972)
That was 45 years ago, and I doubt very few of them have ever heard of this.
Chuck Christian’s story is very compelling, and it seems the large majority of Anderson’s victims would be in the adolescent age range of 18-22 years.
Shelden’s victims would be in the 8–15 year range. Think of the long term damage to these kids.
These 2 culprits were not the lone rangers of child and adolescent sexual abuse at this school.
There was and still could be an extensive underground network of these pedophile creeps lurking at UM.
Learning of Shelden’s activities might shake the U of M good folks to their core.
