Some asked for a copy of this affidavit for search warrant in support of the search of the old Busch family home in October 2008. I scanned it, so I figured I would also post it again today.

The search warrant was executed almost a full year after the name Christopher Busch surfaced decades after his family, attorneys and private polygrapher, not to mention Bloomfield Township PD, Birmingham PD and the Michigan State Police, L.Brooks Patterson and Richard Thompson, believed this fuck would never be spoken of again. A year to execute a search warrant. That’s what happens when the MSP and OCP wade in.

It was also right at the tail end of Prosecutor David Gorcyca’s term serving Oakland County. We all know who stepped in for way too many years after that.

Thank you to a reader for these photos of Fr. Gary Berthiaume, circa 1974. I always wonder when pedophiles get busted why LE does not publish photos of these people back when they were in their prime offending years. That old, sad sack photo of Ted Lamborgine, for instance, does not reflect the evil, wig-wearing, freak POS who was terrorizing boys back in the 1970s and 1980s (and I’m sure well-past that). The failure to publish these photos reflects, to me, a desire to keep the victim count down.

These photos of Berthiaume are from The Michigan Catholic, 1974, provided by a former parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Farmington, Oakland County, Michigan. I am told he kept his sideburns long well after 1974. Remind you of anyone?

Berthiaume served time (if you call 6 months “time”) for child sex crimes in 1977. He was moved to Ohio and then Illinois, from parish to parish, as part of the clergy protection program that has been in force all over the world, apparently since the beginning of time.

He “passed” a polygraph concerning the OCCK case back in 1977. I believe he has been swabbed for DNA in the case as well. He may have no connection to these crimes, but may well have other victims out there and some knowledge of the pedophile rings operating in Oakland County during the reign of the OCCK.

If this guy has 4 or 5 known victims, there are probably many, many more. If you were victimized by this man, come forward. He has been extradited to face child sex abuse charges in Michigan dating back to 1977. The statute of limitations is not a bar because he fled Michigan to evade justice. Michigan AG Dana Nessel’s office is continuing its investigation into clergy sex abuse. CALL THE AG’S OFFICE IF YOU WERE VICTIMIZED BY THIS MAN.

Thanks to a reader for tipping me off about the press coverage of WXYZ’s radio’s airing of a 90-second tape segment on May 16, 1979. WXYZ proposed broadcasting the tape of a call made to Dr. Bruce Danto on April 10, 1977 from a man claiming to know who the OCCK was. Former task force commander Robert Robertson provided the station with the tape. It was played for the public on Dr. Sonya Friedman’s radio show more than two years after the last abduction and murder in the OCCK crime spree. Friedman warned listeners to call only with documented leads and said “Don’t call in with your fantasies.” No leads came from airing this tape. Wonder if it would have helped in 1977–or would that have generated “too many useless leads?”

Friedman was quoted as saying she and Robertson were hoping “to bring the case to a state of rest. Even if the person is dead, we should know or there will never be a psychological closure to this thing.”

Yesterday, WJR radio legend Dick Haefner announced his retirement after 51 years in radio news. https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2020/12/07/detroit-radio-legend-and-wjr-news-director-dick-haefner-announces-his-retirement-after-51-year-career/. That is a remarkable run.

The article describes how Haefner “broke one of the most tragic and long-running mysteries in local history. He first reported the existence of “The Oakland County Child Killer” the day after Christmas 1976, following the murder of a Royal Oak girl.” Said Haefner: “I could never have imagined we would be doing stories about this 44 years later. The stories haven’t changed that much, except for the duration of time.”
